How to sell with Gelato internationally
Gelato's network can shorten the route to international buyers. It cannot promise that every product will be made in the country you expect.

How Gelato's order flow works
Your store takes the buyer's payment. Gelato separately charges the product, shipping, and applicable tax when the order is sent to production. The free account has no required setup fee, monthly fee, or minimum order.
Gelato then routes production through its network. Destination matters, but so do product capability, stock, and available capacity. Local production is an aim, not a promise for every SKU.
How Gelato chooses a route
- 1
Read the order
Product, format, variants, and buyer destination.
- 2
Check the network
Capability, stock, and available capacity.
- 3

Gelato selects an eligible production partner.

Launch one Gelato product
- 1
Connect the sales channel
Use a direct integration for Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, or BigCommerce, or choose the API, Order Desk, or manual flow when appropriate.

Gelato's integration guide separates direct connections from manual and API routes. Gelato Help Center (opens in a new tab) - 2
Pick the buyer market first
Enter a realistic destination and confirm that the exact product, format, and variants are available there.
- 3
Design on the current template
Check bleed, safe area, orientation, resolution, and every enabled format. Wall art sizes deserve separate previews.
- 4
Price the full delivered order
Add product, shipping, tax, store fees, currency conversion, discounts, and a replacement allowance.
- 5
Publish a narrow variant set
Start with the sizes and colors you can sample and support. A huge option list creates more ways for routing and mockups to diverge.
- 6
Run a live test order
Confirm billing, production status, tracking, packaging, and the actual arrival experience in the target market.

What local production does and does not mean

A distributed network can reduce travel distance for eligible orders. It can also reroute an item when a local partner lacks the product, format, stock, or capacity.
Do not write "made in the buyer's country" on a listing unless that exact product and order can guarantee it. A safer promise is that Gelato uses a distributed network and shows the live delivery estimate at checkout.
- Check coverage for the exact product, not the category
- Test at least one main buyer country
- Avoid a single global delivery estimate
- Recheck seasonal cutoffs and peak-period changes
Do you need Gelato+?
The free plan is enough to validate the workflow. Gelato+ currently adds more stores and users plus product or shipping benefits that vary by offer and route.
Use your own order mix for the decision. Multiply the real discount on the products you sell by expected monthly volume, then compare that amount with the live subscription price. Maximum discount headlines are not a forecast.

A useful Gelato sample test
- Use the exact product and country from the planned listing
- Record the production country shown on the real order
- Separate production time from carrier time
- Check print scale, color, crop, material, and finish
- Inspect packaging and any customs or carrier messages
- Repeat in a second key market before making a global promise

When Gelato is the wrong fit
- You must select a named production country or factory
- The product is not consistently available in your buyer markets
- Your brand needs packaging or finishing unavailable on the route
- A specialist supplier has a clearly better version of the core product
A few common questions
Is Gelato free to use?
Gelato offers a free account with no required setup fee, monthly charge, or order minimum. Product, shipping, tax, and selected extras are charged when an order goes to production.
Does Gelato integrate with Etsy and Shopify?
Yes. Gelato directly integrates with Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, and BigCommerce, with other workflows available through its API, Order Desk, or manual orders.
Can I choose where Gelato prints my order?
No. Gelato chooses the production location based on destination, product capability, stock, and capacity. Not every product can be produced locally in every market.
How do I get paid with Gelato?
Your connected store pays you according to its own payout schedule. Gelato separately charges you for fulfillment.
Is Gelato good for international shipping?
Gelato is worth testing for international sales because of its distributed network. The product and destination still determine whether production is local and whether the delivered cost is competitive.
